Shocks. It has been ages na pala since I checked out my blog. I know I’m missing a lot of things here na. So what’s new here ba? Medyo busy kasi ako these past days eh. You know naman, the magis* thing. I really wanna make karir this sem so I have to sacrifice even this blogging thing eh.
I wanna make kuwento muna because I have some time to spare now. You know, I really got inis talaga during our English class when our prof some sort of stereotyped public school students (I was a public school student before by the way). It all started kasi when we had this argument: “The law which prescribes the use of English in teaching of all subjects in grade school and high school will result to higher illiteracy rates in the country”. Medyo agree naman kasi ako on that claim, since most Filipinos are accustomed to speaking their native language nga and a sudden implementation of that law may bring about adverse effects pa.
Kaso, when he kinda said na public school students are like… not capable of understanding the way he spoke (he’s very fluent and he had this really great accent nga pala), that’s when I got inis but I didn’t show it. Then, he called my name and he like asked what can I say about this. Since he called me out of nowhere, I was like having this big question mark on my face. Why on Earth did he call me anyway? Then a follow-up question came: “You’re not from a public school, right?”. Then I answered: “I am from a public school. And I was quite insulted with what you have just said earlier, because not all public school students are like that.” Then he like said: “Exactly. Not all public students are like that and we have her (referring to me) as an example. So we are stereotyping people, right?” And then he apologized naman so it’s ok na.
You know, I really get infuriated whenever minamaliit ng ilang people (especially those in the higher class) the public school students. We may lack the facilities and other things (possibly competent teachers na rin kasi their population is declining na) pero we do learn something and hindi kami tanga (I do hate using this word but I felt like using this now eh.) like what some think. In public schools kasi, you’ll learn something far more important than theories, concepts and other stuffs – that is, for me, the harshness of life. And by learning the reality that life is not always like a bed of roses where you can always make pasarap and that everything cannot be provided for you, everything follows – independence, resourcefulness (I remembered once that we even had to calibrate a mineral water bottle to suffice the lack of graduated cylinders because the lab equipment had to be sent to some science high school out there. That’s when I felt pity talaga for our school.), patience, etc. This sort of reminds me of my high school classmate and friend, Christian’s ARTICLE containing some sentiments about high school life. I was like crying kaya when I read that. You might want to check out that link as well to further elucidate my point. (May point ba ‘tong pinagsusulat ko in the first place?)
Much as I would like to make a formal closure on this thing, I can’t think of a way eh. I’d just explain na lang why I had to incorporate conyo*-ness in this entry. Well… it’s like this kasi eh. If I wrote this in straight English, my nose would bleed and that’s messy kaya! If in straight Filipino naman, I might look too serious, which is not my nature naman. Having it patterned to the way conyos speak was my last option na para we’re all happy ‘di ba? Furthermore, they’re so like nakakaliw kayang pakinggan. If you haven’t heard one, I’d suggest na you make punta to Katipunan at least.
*magis – striving for excellence (yata)
*conyo – ang hirap i-define. take heed of the italicized words to get a clue.
Note: Hindi ako conyo (duh).
passing by, want coño, this one is: cofibean. Not that I am comparing you to him. Hopefully, you’re not like that all the time.
dba yung mga yaya ganyan magsalita?
“junior, eat na your lunch, now na!”
Saka ngayon lang ‘to ‘no. Mas nakakadugo magsulat ng parang conyo eh. Haha
ENOCH: Syempre naman. Ba’t ako manggagaya? Hehe.
go joanne. you made pahiya to your english prof. i am so idolizing you na.
PADRE SALVI: Hala may ganon. Natakot kaya ako sa ginawa ko. Haha. Hindi naman siguro big deal ‘yun.
WEI VINES: di ko gets. hehe.
tagles. nakakatamad pa ring basahin.
GRACE: may dahilan kung bakit taglish ‘to. malalaman mo lang ‘yon pag binasa mo. wushuu. hehe
kanina online. ngayon online na naman. wala akong pasok ngayon. tae. conyo… conio.h- isa yang library sa isang programming software.
haha. you know what? i would really fall off my seat if i see you talking like that.
haha. i’m speechless.
GRACE: when you get used to it, maiintindihan mo na ‘yan. sanayan lang.
SUPERPAURONG: Ha?
wow joanne, what have you become? i always knew back then that you are weird but as the looks of it, you’re evolving into somebody whose mind is utterly at its strangest. “Di na kita maarok”. Do all smart people go through this type of transition in their lives? shucks, “pano na me”, i’m kinda scared
“na”.
Well, i was deeply touched when you make “tanggol” of the public schools. And to add up “pa”, you’ve impressed me when you made your professor eat his(tama ba?) words. i’m very proud of you girl(nyaks).
keep on posting “pa” many of your hilarious and peculiar experiences. I’m enjoying all of it.
oh my god joanne! christian’s so right!! i could never imagine you talking like that… hehehe.. kung sa bagay i understand your point na it’s like medyo nakaka-overdose nga ang ka-conyo-han sa tabi-tabi. right? hehe..
grabe naman yung english prof niyo ah!! pero i really like what you did! he’s so stereotyping naman kasi talaga! and that’s so wrong noh?!! i do agree with you.. malamang lang noh, magka-uri tayo pagdating sa bagay na yan, haha.. we’re from the same high school kaya! duh?! and same university na rin ngayon. tama bang sabihin na students from public schools can’t understand him because of his accent?! what the!! but im just so proud of you huh.. buti tinabla mo! medyo napahiya siguro siya noh… bakit kasi ganun? “You’re not from a public school, right?” pala ah? ang assuming nya ah… siguro kasi he didn’t expect na a student like you who excels in his english class came from a public school right?? grabe talaga….
anyway. natouch ako sa mga sinabi mo about high school stuff.. and naalala ko rin yung blog entry ni chris.. grabe, ganda rin nun.. ka-touch talaga.. makes me so proud to be a rizalian!! ibang klase talaga yung education na nakuha natin from rhs… as in!! one of the best, one of a kind..
